Take me out to the ball game!

Last Friday my Parents were itching for a night out, so I suggested we go to the Bees game. It was sweet. It turned out to be a beautiful night. It was great to participate in America's favorite pass-time. We got to stand up and sing "Take me out to the Ball Game" in the 7th inning. Unfortunately our team lost, due to a pitcher problem in the ...6th inning, and the Portland Beavers scored 10 runs! It was a close game before that, too bad the Bees never recovered. It was fun anyway, and because it was Military appreciation night and the eve of Memorial Day Weekend there were fireworks after the show. The firworks rocked! They lasted longer than any of us expected and were even set to music. It turned out to be a really enjoyable evening. I was even able to snap some pictures with my phone.
Here is Shawn and I and the two guys behind us that were talking about baseball the whole game.
This is when the Bees were conversing on the pitchers mound, deciding what to do in the 6th inning...I think they went through 3 pitchers that inning. And here are my super cute parents!! Isn't technology amazing?

Busy Busy Busy

Shawn and I have been really busy the past two weeks and I actually brought our camera along for the fun. Tonight I tried to import the photos from the camera and it didn't work, but they're coming. I'm determined to figure this out. Just be patient--dorky photos are coming! But, in case you are in desperate need of photos of one of our many adventures, go to Carly & Tyler's blog and you will be able to see fun exciting pics of when we went boating with them Last Saturday. Hopefully our pics will be up soon!

Happy Birthday to Me

In case you didn't know, Wednesday was my birthday. I'm now 23 years old. Shawn and I took the day off and we had a rockin time. Shawn planned the whole day. It was sweet. We slept in and had breakfast. Shawn gave me the cutest blue fleece zip up hoodie. Then I was off to get my hair cut, its great I love it! Then we watched the new Chronicles of Narnia movie, Prince Caspian, at the Gateway...what a let down. I don't think it was half as good as the first one. Moving on with the day-Shawn got us a reservation at The Anniversary Inn, in the Romeo & Juliet Suite. Pretty cool stuff. It had a huge jetted tub that was as long as me! The bed was up stairs with a balcony and this crazy big TV. We checked into our room and then headed off to The Log Haven for our dinner reservations. (Shawn really likes to spoil me, can you tell?) The Log Haven is just beautiful. Amazing food, great atmosphere, beautiful scenic setting. It was so wonderful to just sit and talk together for a few hours over good food. But, well, we were in for a little surprise. At Log Haven you have your choice of what you would like for the 1st course, the salad, and then the entree and then of course dessert. I didn't want to order a first course for two reasons, mainly because I knew I would be too full to finish my entree, or even attempt dessert; and because nothing really sounded that appetizing. Shawn decided to order this Kobe beef item from the 1st course menu, and we could split it. The idea seemed pretty harmless, you can't go wrong with beef right? Our waitress brought out a plate with a partially cooked egg with raw yoke (which I dislike), a ball of raw beef pieces (not a fan of raw anything), and capers with a dijon spread to go on pieces of bread (which were completely hard/crunchy which my teeth don't handle well). I looked at what she had placed down in front of us and thought--oh no! What did we get ourselves into?? Shawn tried it, and said it wasn't bad...so being the adventurous person I am I took a piece of bread and put on the egg, meat, and capers. It was alright, but one bite was enough for me. Shawn kept eating, and apparently I missed the dijon spread which ties the whole thing together and makes it taste really good, but I just couldn't bring myself to eat another bite. Note to self: Read the menu better next time and ask questions! Anyway. The rest of the meal was fabulous. We both had the spinach salad and then Shawn ordered Marlin and I had Bison (which I've never had, but was actually delicious and flavorful). Then we had creme brulee for dessert. It was so good. Then it was back to the hotel room for a nice relaxing evening. It was a really good day. So...Happy Birthday to Me!

Ben Folds and Family...

So Ben Folds is in full swing on my Pandora Radio today... Sometimes I think that without work I'd be lost in life. I'd still alone all day everyday. Sleeping late and being lonely to death. Thank goodness for work! And for Family! That's what it's all about you know!? The older I get the more clearly I see what we're really here for... for the connections we form with people. Those connections, relationships or "Familiarities" that we form here are what life is about. I work in an open room full of people... about some 300 they estimate... Cubicles everywhere... as far as the human eye can see... and I think "Wow. All these people have families people who they love..." It's amazing... Alright I have a meeting now. More form "Shawn's Soap Box" to come...

The World is a Gift

I decided that most of the Earth is a gift. Shawn and I were driving tonight and we looked over at the sky. It was phenominal. The clouds were covering the whole sky, and then right at the base of the horizon was vibrant orange sky. I looked at Shawn and said, I wish I had a camera. The whole drive we couldn't stop looking over at the sunset. The windows were down and the music was up. All I could think was that sunsets are a gift from God. Then my mind went to all the other things we are blessed with. This earth really is a gift, we just need to take the time to appreciate it. Actually take the time to notice the beauty all around us. People travel all over the world to visit and see beautiful places, but how often do we notice the beauty of the landscape of where we live? Anyway. I just had to say something. I'm off to watch the Jazz game. Go Jazz!!

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

Today is one of those days when I look in the mirror, don't recognize the person looking back, and think--Where did I go? My life is changing all the time. Its like if I blink, I've missed something important. I'm a notoriously sentimental person and today it is in full swing. I guess you could say that this morning I realized it is summer, at least from a University schedule, and that I don't have summers like I used to. I am supposed to work everyday. No sleeping in or lounging around or doing whatever you want. There is somewhere I have to be. Welcome to the adult world of summer. Its kind of depressing really. I don't know how to keep summer exciting and youthful and work full time. Any advice? That's my goal. We'll see how I do. Anyway...I really should stop blogging and start working.

Ugh.

If there was one word to describe how I feel today it would be Ugh. It is only 3 letters, yet it serves its purpose well. Ugh. I don't feel well. Ugh. I don't want to work today. Ugh. Etc... I'm sure you can imagine possible uses. I was just thinking, what if we had to pick a word every day to describe how we were feeling that day, and it could only be one word...and what if we had to display them, maybe on your shirt, or your forehead. Wouldn't that be interesting? Today I would have Ugh plastered across my face. What do you think?

Do you ever feel haunted by your past?

Lately I feel like my past is just popping up all around me. Flooding me with memories of different people and different times in my life. It makes me miss them and Sometimes they are unpleasant reminders of bad times. I'm not sure how to handle it all, but I guess you just smile and focus on today. Find a way to reconnect to parts of life that you love and move on.

Oh and just so everyone knows, my Dad got my car to pass emissions today!!! Its super cool and my Dad is like Mr. Fix-it amazing. I don't know if he realizes how much I appreciate him and all that he does. Someday I'll find a way to express it to him in a way he'll comprehend... Oh and thanks for the comments I love them. I'm not quite sure how to respond to them because I wish I could. Anyway. Have a good day and remember something my wise husband said a long long time ago...

"If you dig into the past you only get dirty."
