Yesterday, My car doors were frozen shut, and after 15 Minutes I was finally able to get in through the passenger side, open the drivers side (for good measure) and drive to work. Today, I was worried about the same thing, so I went out to my car, and started by opening the passenger side door. It only took a little bit of tugging and it came open...but then it wouldn't close. I went to the driver's side and it opened just fine (after a good solid pull) and I started my car and cleaned off the snow. Hoping of course, that my car would warm up and the door would close. Such was not the case, so I had to get creative. I figured if I could get it tied shut I might be able to drive to work. I looked in the garage but couldn't find any "twine" but knew there was some "ribbon" in the house. I tied the door with ribbon and used my scraper as more leverage to keep the door shut. I knew the ribbon wasn't strong, but it would get me to my Dad's house (approx. 5 min away) where he could help me jimmy-rig it shut, or we could trade cars if need be. After driving very carefully to my parent's house (even leaning over to help hold the door shut), I found my Father in the basement working on the Furnace. Apparently it's going out, and he's going to try to clean the fan and lube it, but "we're going to need a new one asap." I told him about my car door not shutting, so after a minute we went outside...and my door shut...first try. I swear when my Dad comes around things just fix themselves. He figures it was probably just too cold to latch, but I'm so grateful it shut on its own because I had worried that I had broken it in a serious way! This car is down right amazing. So many times, Too many times, something goes wrong. I have learned if you just wait it out the car works just fine.

Can I say Crafts?
I am not a crafty person. Crafts and I do not get along. We possibly could get along, except I am a perfectionist, who knows she can't do anything perfect, so I give up. Its a hopeless cycle. I learned a long time ago that crafts just make me frustrated. I have very little desire to do anything crafty. I just don't think I got that "bone" in my body. It takes all the effort I possess, with Shawn's help, to decorate our apartment. Its not that I don't want a nice looking home, or cute things to decorate them, because I do. I just don't have the knack for it. It wasn't meant to be. I'm telling you. I hope you believe me.
Okay so you're probably wondering, why is she blogging about this, and why do we care? Its alright, you don't have to care. Recently I feel like I am surrounded by crafty, cute, creative, artistic people. I am ultimately noticing my deficiencies. As I compare my non-crafty life to those around me...I'm realizing just how much I lack craftiness. Now, I do think I have an artistic side, albeit a little under-developed, it's still there. Its just random and contemporary...like scratches on a piece of paper. Usually, it doesn't mean anything to anyone but me. But it is art to me.
Sorry I don't fit the mold. I'm not crafty. I'm not retro, I'm not stylish. I'm not an avid or creative blogger. I'm just me...a t-shirt and jeans girl til the end.

When Life gives you Lemons...You PUCKER!
This is what Shawn walked into when he came home from work on Friday, January 16. Our Apartment flooded, the ceiling collapsed. Basically, we are homeless.
This is a general view of our kitchen, and the "flood."
This is the kitchen ceiling (and light fixture) that fell to the ground.
This is the dry-wall that is covering the carpet, and shows the entrance to our bathroom.
The flood company came in Friday night, and started cleaning up. We high tailed it to The Brock's, because they have an extra bed, and we were going skiing on Saturday anyway. Sunday, after attending our ward (both of us had to teach) we analyzed our situation again. Now there were at least 12 fans, a de-humidifier, and lets not forget all the tubes going into the walls to help dry everything out. We were without a kitchen ceiling, hall ceiling, and part of our bedroom floor.
The video hopefully gives you all an impression of the whirlwind disaster area that was our apartment.
After a nasty two nights in an extended stay motel, we booked ourselves a room at a Fairfield Inn, and enjoyed our stay there. We are now at The Brock's, as Kerry & Carrie left for Hawaii, and as we don't have a place to live, we were the perfect candidates to house sit, and baby sit.
We stopped by our apartment to grab a few things, and now it looks like a HAZMAT site. There is plastic up everywhere (there is a zipper to get into the kitchen & beyond) to keep the dust from the drywall getting on everything. We kind of have a hall ceiling!! So hopefully we'll be back in our apartment sooner than expected. Life has been pretty crazy this past week, but I am so grateful it wasn't a bigger problem. I mean, it was a ton of water, and totally annoying...But I got to thinking about the people who are displaced from large natural disasters. Who don't get to go home in 2 weeks, or who may not even have a home to go back to. This whole experience has made me very grateful for all that we have...particularly Renter's Insurance (Thanks Howard!) and family & friends & neighbors who have been so willing to offer help to us in our time of need. We'll keep you updated.

Meet Leonard.
Last night, in an effort to make amends, Shawn came home from class with After Eights (one of my favorite treats) and a plant. A long time ago I decided house plants should have names, and after much deliberation...it came to me. I would like to introduce you to our new plant Leonard.
He is really cute! Shawn has no idea what kind of plant he is-and neither do I. He has little yellow spots on his leaves, and he isn't very big. Shawn figures he rescued him from the grocery store. I figure he was right. I'm really excited, and already thinking about getting a bigger nicer pot so Leonard can grow.

What to Blog...What to Blog...
I keep thinking, "I should blog". Shawn says to me, "You should blog." Although our life isn't crazy interesting or busy, I do have things to blog about...BUT I feel like I get behind. I don't blog about what I want to, and then I feel dumb doing it late, and then I just get further and further behind--So I just don't blog anything. Then, I do what I'm doing now, writing a lame-o entry about how I don't blog.
I thought about writing "My Resolutions" but realized that I don't really have any...at least not solid ones.
I hoped to do an entry "2008 in Review" and post all whole bunch of fun random pictures from last year.
I wanted to write a "Tribute to My Car" as it is nearing the end of its days...and causing lots of drama, but giving us new experiences. (Like going to a Car Dealership and Test driving cars, OR Trying to find a car that we both Agree on, OR Going to the Bank to see what kind of loan we can get)
And here I am...not really doing any of those things. Oh well. Hope you all survive your Monday!
