"Isn't it Ironic?"
Last night, Shawn got a message from one of his employees letting him know that her water broke. Her due date wasn't for 3 more weeks...
While we are still waiting for our baby girl to make her grand entrance.
40 weeks + 5 days.

A day date with my little man
Today I am 39 weeks pregnant. Carter got to come with me to the doctor and since we were already in the "salt lake valley" I decided to make a day of it. Just me and my little boy...before his baby sister makes an appearance.
Right now Carter is obsessed with the temple. Not a day goes by that he doesn't talk about it, how it's pretty, we were married there, how angel Moroni is on top. He is always asking to see the temple. So off to temple square we went! We saw the Salt Lake Temple and I let Carter touch it. He asked to go inside...I don't know if I explained that one too well...anyway. I think he liked it. We walked around and saw the other buildings. I showed him a statue of Joseph Smith and he said, "He is my friend" so cute! The tabernacle was closed for an organ practice, but we went in the north visitors center and walked around (while it rained). Carter was 'taking pictures' of everything with his domino-phone. Then we went inside the conference center to see where the prophet spoke last weekend. It was really nice to show Carter important spiritual things in person and not just in a book or on tv.
Then we headed over to City Creek for lunch. (Chick-fila is a two year olds best friend) I had a less then pleasant experience...they forgot to give me Carter's drink. So while I was pushing the stroller, balancing the tray and manuvering my gigantic belly up to the front my drink tipped and spilled all over me. Thankfully a lady helped me before the damage was too bad. Then once I had Carter's apple juice we had to find a table. That was so hard! I kept hoping someone would help me...it made me appreciate my husband and going to eat/shopping with other people because you can help each other out. It also made me think I should keep my eyes open the next time I'm at a food court for any moms struggling to push a stroller, sooth a child and carry food...cuz she probably needs a hand!
After lunch we saw the fishies swim and then headed to the car. It was raining a lot harder and I could tell Carter was getting maxed out (as was I). He was asleep before we got on the freeway.
It was so fun to spend a day with him doing something special. I'm not sure when baby girl will come, but I hope hope hope Carter knows how much I love him. He is such a sweet little boy. I can't get over how tender hearted he is. I know he is excited or his baby sister to come, but he will probably have a hard time sharing me. I'm grateful we got an official "date" together just the two of us.
Now if I could find the time to go on a real date with my husband...

The Zoo!
Last Monday Shawn's work had a zoo day. We got to go to the zoo after hours and they provided us with dinner (hooray for hamburgers and hotdogs). Shawn even got extra tickets, so our friends Zack and Cori came along.
I got there early with Carter and we started to make the rounds. We saw the monkeys and elephants. The baby peed and pooped right in front of us ... "What's he doing mom? What's he doing?" "Going pee and poop" "Oh (giggle). We just saw the elephant pee mom." Pretty sure that may have been a highlight as he tells everyone about it.
We actually saw the rhinos moving around (instead of just laying there). That's when daddy showed up! We went down and saw the seals/sea lions swim around. Carter got really excited every time one swam by and he would yell, "there goes a Big one" in his funny "big one" voice.
All the bears were sleeping so we headed over to see the tigers. One tiger was pacing, the rest were sleeping...but the other cats were surprisingly active. We saw the baby and the momma snow leopard. Another smaller cat with no tail (I can't remember it's name) and we saw the other leopard pacing too (I've only seen part of its fur as it slept before). The loop to the giraffes was closed, so we skipped them and headed up by the wolf...who was sleeping by the fence. The lady next to us said "that's it? It looks just like a dog we used to own" I wonder what she was expecting...dogs are descendants of wolves... It was still fun to see. We tried to get Carter to howl at the wolf, but he wouldn't.
We headed to get dinner right when Zack and Cori got there. Then it was off to make the rounds again, as their little boy Noah had never been! This time the polar bear was awake and swimming around. Every time he passed Carter would say hi and laugh. It was so adorable! I wish I got it on video. The other bears were also out and about. Unfortunately it was getting dark so we had to start walking out. It was super fun-I'm glad we got to go!

Come out already!
When I was pregnant with Carter I wasn't in any rush. I was comfortable. It wasn't until he was a week overdue that I started to get a little ansty, and have "I'm ready to get this baby out" thoughts. I had no idea how easy I had it...
I don't know why, maybe just because she is my second...but I want this baby out! I can't take it. For weeks already I can't wait for her to come. I don't know how I can possibly go 4 more weeks. And if I'm overdue...well a tantrum will be had. Don't misunderstand me, I believe very strongly babies come when they are supposed to and so will she. I'm just not sure what to do with these feelings. I'm so done with being pregnant and being uncomfortable and being big and my clothes not fitting and I could keep going!
I'm not ready for another baby. I have so much to do. We don't have a name picked out. And I'm not ready to be a mother of two. I have no idea how I'm going to do that! But man oh man do I want this baby out! I'm physically done and mentally done and I still have 4+ weeks to go! I'm sure the time will fly by, especially when I get busy getting ready for her arrival. But today, well, I'm ready for this baby girl to come out!

{Camping} : Sleeping in a Tent in a Sleeping Bag!
We went camping this weekend! I've been wanting to go all summer, but we just haven't found the time, and we weren't sure where to go. Shawn had a few days off he needed to use, so we picked a place neither of us had ever been, set the date on the calendar, and loaded up. We went up Thursday and came home Saturday.

We went to the Ledgefork Campground by the Smith-Moorehouse Resevoir. It was beautiful! Some of the leaves were starting to change. We had this sweet creek near our campsite, and Carter loved going to the "river" and throwing sticks in. It was pretty cold at night/the morning, but we all stayed warm enough. Carter slept like champ. Seriously, I was amazed. 10pm-7am the first night, and 10pm-9am the next! I did not sleep so well...but that was kind of expected. 35 weeks pregnant, in a mummy bag, on a little inflatable pad... rolling over was about impossible. Even still, I had an enjoyable time.

Friday we had a lazy morning, and then went to the "lake" to go fishing. Shawn actually fished, while Carter and I threw rocks in the resevoir, and pretended to fish with a kiddie pole that didn't have a hook on it.

It was sunny with a slight breeze. It was perfect weather, and an absolutely beautiful way to spend the day. Carter was in heaven and kept asking to go back to the lake all evening. Shawn got to take the 4Runner our "4wheeling" on a road near the campsite. It was gorgeous, but we didn't go too long, my big belly couldn't take the bouncing...and we didn't want to accidentally put me into labor.

Due to Carter's begging, we went back to the resevoir before dinner. Shawn was able to catch a fish that time, and Carter got to touch it. Then we put it back.

Saturday we packed up camp and stopped by the resevoir on the way out. It was so nice to be outside and close to nature. I'm glad we did it and I'm so glad we stayed two nights. We debated going home after one, but decided we should stay. It gave us the time away we needed. Super huge props to Shawn. He was so helpful. He cooked every meal, and helped clean up and took care of so much stuff.

I was struggling more than I'd like to admit, and he just silently took care of everything while we were there. I just had to keep track of Carter, which was easier than at home. Dirt, sticks, rocks, water, the kid was entertained for hours. One thing is for sure, he is a natural born camper!

I think we all had a good time. I hope Shawn did. He isn't used to "car camping" but I think this trip showed him how nice it can be, close to nature, but still able to enjoy some comforts. I'm so glad we made it out at least once this year before the cold sets in! Hooray for camping!

The Broken Leg
I tried to write this post last week and it got deleted somehow (argh @ technology sometimes!) So here we go again...
Last Wednesday Carter ended up with no pants and just a diaper (this is not uncommon-I change him and then he takes off running-Carter loves to be chased). He decided he wanted his shorts back on so I sent him to his room to go get them. He came back running and laughing with both legs in one hole. Then he tripped. And started crying. He seemed pretty upset, but I just assumed it was more dramatic because nap time was fast approaching. I calmed him down and put him down for his nap...and didn't think anything of it. Until he woke up.
I found him standing in his crib like a flamingo. He wouldn't put any weight on his left leg. So Shawn and I did the awesome parent to try an figure out what was wrong. We moved his foot around and tried to get him to point and flex and press his foot. He could do it all but move it side to side...so we assumed he probably rolled his ankle. He's a resilient little kid we figured he'd be walking and forget all about it in no time. The top of his foot was a little swollen so we gave him so ibuprofen and called it good. He limped around walking only on his heel and keeping his leg totally straight.
The next morning he was still limping and when he would stand he wouldn't put his foot down. So I called the doctor and made an appointment for later that day. You know...just to make sure it wasn't broken (because I was sure it wasn't). I let him play and run around like normal all day. We went to the dr and she checked out his foot. And then they sent him to get X-rays because he reacted when she pressed on a certain spot. Thank goodness Shawn was working from home and came with us because I couldn't go into the X-ray room with Carter cuz of my prego belly.

The dr came back in and said they thought he had a small fracture. I couldn't see anything and honestly thought his bone looked normal! She wanted us to see an orthopedic dr in a few days to see if it needed to be casted. They formed Carter a splint and off we went.

Enter today. We saw the orthopedic dr and got more X-rays. He has a buckle fracture and gets to wear a black boot. We go back in a week, when they will take more X-rays and decide how much longer he needs to wear the boot. Luckily the dr said little kids bounce back from these things really quick. Carter doesn't even act like it hurts. I have to keep him from jumping on it! It's so sad to see his little leg all wrapped up, but he is still so happy, and I'd rather be safe then sorry. I'm so glad it's only a boot and he doesn't have to have a cast!
